Mortal - T.L. Eastman

(image from http://www.theage.com.au)

The words that follow are the first efforts at some new lyrics that I've been working on. Being mortal allows us the beauty and challenge of being falliable and human. Some days we feel more Mortal than others...thankfully as good as I am at falling, God is better at catching me.

MORTAL

Reason Your way in words to me
Help me understand what my life
could be.
Work Your wisdom in my dark
Help me reach the highest mark

Why do I worry my life away?
Why do I scurry day to day?
Why can't I rest when I should sleep?
Why do I give away what I should keep?

Hearts to beat and blood to flow, understand this mortal show.

Perfection is where I want to be
But perfection is impossibility.
Perfect I can only see
when You are looking back at me.

How can I want, what I can't be?
How I choose what I can't see?
How can I win this game I play?
How can I wander so far away?

Hearts to beat and blood to flow, understand this mortal soul.

Place my dreams into Your hands
Make my mind begin to understand
Keep my hopes close to Your heart
Oh this is the hardest part.

Where can I rest my weary head?
Where can I find a safer bed?
Where can I run, and where to be
the place where I can simply see?

Hearts that beat and blood that flows, understand this mortal coil.
