Scrabble cup cakes and Seminary

Image found @: The Cupcake Blog Someday,  when I graduate from Seminary I want to  celebrate with "Scrabble" cup cakes. Because, the only way I'll make it to graduation day  is one letter, word and sentence at a time. Earlier this week, I applied to the "Castle" Wartburg Seminary's: TEEM program  (Theological Education for Emerging Ministries). Lot's of work had already gone into getting to this point. (Three years of essays, prayer, interviews, and more have gone into this discernment process that is called " ELCA Candidacy" .) Good thoughts, prayers, and maybe a Scrabble game or two are welcome as I wait to hear if I start classes in September. One letter, word and sentence at a time. Seminary? Yes. Seminary. It feels good to share this word with you. :)

1000 moments to celebrate!

A moment, a love, a dream, aloud A kiss, a cry, our rights, ours wrongs won't stop till its over...   (Music, lyrics and video to Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap .) 32, 243 Views. Reorganized on 1/20/09. Thoughtful comments for three years. I wish I could count the number of words that have been posted here at Uphill Idealist. Today, though I can celebrate the 1000 moments that are represented by the 1000 posts at this corner of the web. But, m ore than counting posts or words, I hope the words, ideas, and art posted here have made a difference - for good's sake. Thank you to followers, readers and friends like Ian ,  Pam , Mary Lue and Mel that have walked alongside this idealist that keeps on trekking up all those hills. Thank you to those who have shared the... moments, love, dreams,  kisses, cries, rights, wrongs of this wandering, wondering and hopeful  Uphill Idealist.  I am hopeful. Don't worry - 1000 posts does not ...

Use your hands

Original photo taken by Mencer Photography. Two dear friends of my husband and I got married recently. They are a wonderful couple and I've been really excited to attend and take part in the celebration. What makes this day even more exciting, is that I've been invited to sing and play one of my songs for their reception. It's an honor for me to give something so personal to friends so dear to my heart. However, it's always challenging to know what to give to newlyweds. This couple have their household already set up, so I don't think they need towels or dishes. I knew that this dear couple probably considered my gift of song to be their wedding gift; but I still wanted to do something more for them. Later on, I asked my son's opinion on what card (funny or sentimental) to choose for them and he said, "You know, I really think they would like something that you made them instead." How is it that in the midst of giving a song, I'd overlooked the ob...

Labor's day surprise

I'm very much looking forward to this Labor Day. Each year we have a slam dunk of a picnic at my mother-in-laws home, and this year is no different except that we are also plotting a surprise celebration my our daughter's graduation from high school. The decorations are gathered, the special photo cake is ordered, and some special guests are ready for the party to begin! Heather is heading the college later this week, so we wanted a chance to have cake, balloons and an honest surprise before summer's end. Here's to hoping the surprise works out well! You're life is all ahead of you Heb - soak it all in, shake off what dosent' suit you and be yourself. You are beautiful and bright - inside and out! We love you. Mom and Dad PS. The surprise worked! Thanks to everyone who helped make this Labor Day/Grad Party great!

Celebration!

Celebration by Keith Mallett found at "It's a black thing.com" Today is a rather normal Thursday. I took my kids to school and then got ready to go on a long run. It's amazing that I can say the words "long run" and now be able to actually do it. For the last 2 1/2 years, I'm been on this journey of learning how to run for fitness and dare I say it - fun! This was not my perspective two years ago, but wow time has changed things. Today I'm celebrating the fact that I went on a run and ran 5.1 miles! I know it may not be a marathon, but this is my longest distance run since I began this effort and I recall when running from telephone pole to telephone pole seemed impossible. I started this effort with the Couch to 5k online guide , did that several times, ran in a few 5k races and now I go out every morning to run and clear my head. It's a good thing so I'm going to celebrate it. What do you have to celebrate today? Don't hesitate to find ...
