Donald Miller at First Lutheran Church of Jamestown

First Lutheran Church of Jamestown to host Bestselling Author Donald Miller Kicks Off 65-City Tour: September 16 to Launch His Highly Anticipated New Book:
A Million Miles in a Thousand Years

Donald Miller, author of the New York Times bestseller Blue Like Jazz, takes to the road this fall, visiting 65 cities by tour bus to launch his eagerly-awaited new book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life (Thomas Nelson, $19.99 hardcover, October 2009).

Though in great demand as a speaker, Miller usually does just a few talks each year. “Donald Miller On Tour: An Evening with Donald Miller” will give his legion of fans, who turned Blue Like Jazz into a contemporary spiritual classic that has sold more than one million copies, the opportunity to see him live as he logs thousands, if not quite a million, miles.

Miller, who lives in Portland, OR, will spend about two months on the road. He’ll kick the tour off in the Pacific Northwest, with an event in Victoria, British Columbia, on September 16, followed by events in Gig Harbor, WA, Portland, and Seattle. The tour then heads out to cities coast to coast including Los Angeles, Denver, Oklahoma City, Chicago, St. Louis, Des Moines, Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Austin, Orlando, Birmingham, Nashville, Chattanooga, and more. While Donald Miller will be found in all these cities, First Lutheran Church of Jamestown, NY was also chosen to host an additional leg of this national reaching tour. Mr. Miller will be performing at First Lutheran Church, 120 Chandler Street in Jamestown on October 24th at 7PM. Tickets are $12.00 for Adults and $8.00 for students. For more information on this local event, please call Tara Eastman, Director of Youth and Family Ministry at 716-664-4601.

Local tickets are now on sale at the office at First Lutheran Church or online at www. itickets.com for the Jamestown NY concert date. More information about the tour, including venues and ticket ordering, is available at http://amillionmiles.com/ . This site includes a widget which people can share to spread the word about the tour. The widget is also an easy way to order tickets. Regular tour updates are available by becoming a fan of Donald Miller on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/donaldmillerfan, or following him on Twitter: @donmilleris.

Miller says he can't wait to hit the road and talk about this book, which tells how his life changed when he began to edit it as if he were a character in a movie. Working with filmmakers on a screenplay for a movie based on Blue Like Jazz, Miller realized that the same principles that make a great story are the elements that make a great life. He edits himself into a better story, opening himself up to new experiences, journeys, relationships, motivations, and character transformation. Now, he wants to help others live more meaningful stories, a message that will be at the heart of each “Evening with Donald Miller” on the tour.

Donald will be joined on tour by actor-comedian Susan Isaacs, author of Angry Conversations with God: A Snarky but Authentic Spiritual Memoir (FaithWords 2009). An alumnus of the acclaimed Groundlings comedy troupe who has appeared in movies such as Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and TV shows such as Seinfeld, The Drew Carey Show, and My Name is Earl, Susan will be the opening act for most cities on the tour. Her book chronicles her “middle class white girl’s dark night of the soul”—when she hit bottom, jobless, loveless and living over a garage at age 40, she realized her rocky relationship with God needed professional help, so she took Him to couples counseling. Originally staged as a solo show in New York and Los Angeles, it’s a cheeky account that even at its rawest is a heartfelt affirmation of faith.

St. Brigid Blessings on the Threshold

In preparation for St. Brigid’s day, I consider the blessings that are with us on the threshold.  What are the blessings, neither at the beginning or end, but in the middle.  In transitional spaces that take up most of our days? I think that the threshold can be a space of healing. An opportunity to see things in a new way. A river that takes us to new places of grace. May you feel the presence of love in your thresholds. May it flow from all our beginnings through to each end. May the space of threshold be a balm like lavender, healing our battle wounds. May we find healing in the inbetween. Healing lives on the threshold. #blessings #stbrigid #taralamontart
