Thoughts on writing

Image from the blog Almost Clouds.
“A book comes and says, "Write me." My job is to try to serve it to the best of my ability, which is never good enough, but all I can do is listen to it, do what it tells me and collaborate.”

Madeleine L'Engle quotes

Madeline L'Engle is one of my all time favorite authors. According to the preface in her just released last-first novel, "Joys of Love" that was written by her granddaughter.

"Her (Madeline's) spirit suffered badly with those rejections (to her work), but she never stopped writing, never stopped trying. Hers remained a legacy of discipline and dogged persistence. She has always said that being published doesn't make you a writer - writing does." (Page ix of the introduction to , "The Joys of Love".

For many years now I've written poetry, articles, essays and even some songs. I've not yet attempted to assemble any of these writings into a complete volume. Yet that is. For the last year, I've felt this leading or push to start thinking of what that would be and look like. I'm still not quite sure on how to get the ball rolling, but I do want to try. I know in my heart that I am a writer, published or not, but I feel as if my books is beginning to say "Hello" and asking me to collaborate with it.

So "Hello" back to book whomever you are. I'm happy you said "Hello".

Isn't it odd--I don't think I've ever read her works.

Now, I'll have to.

See how that works?

Now.....on with the writings....

St. Brigid Blessings on the Threshold

In preparation for St. Brigid’s day, I consider the blessings that are with us on the threshold.  What are the blessings, neither at the beginning or end, but in the middle.  In transitional spaces that take up most of our days? I think that the threshold can be a space of healing. An opportunity to see things in a new way. A river that takes us to new places of grace. May you feel the presence of love in your thresholds. May it flow from all our beginnings through to each end. May the space of threshold be a balm like lavender, healing our battle wounds. May we find healing in the inbetween. Healing lives on the threshold. #blessings #stbrigid #taralamontart
