About a month ago, I brought a plain canvas backdrop to a group of 3rd and 4th graders for some unconventional "Dot-to-dot" painting. I invited the students to draw many black dots all over the canvas. After the dots dried, I asked the kids to look back at the canvas and imagine what could be created from the dots they had made.
Over 5 weeks of 1 and 1/2 hours per session , the group painted animals, plants, patterns as varied as the rainbow with the canvas fabric, assorted craft paint brushes and about 14 bottles of acrylic paints!
At the end of the project today, a student stood and looked in awe saying, "I never would have dreamed what could come from a bunch of black dots!"
Funny thing. It was hers and the other children's imagination that made it all come together - for good!

What kind of day dream mural would you or your group create with canvas, dots, some imagination and acrylic paints?
