Pittsburgh 1 and 1/2

Ian and I were off the the great 412 to attend the Emergent Pittsburgh Seminar on Monday morning after making sure the house was ready for Mom to come stay with the kiddos. Milk in fridge. Check. Clean sheets and comforters. Check. Dishes done... no check. We had the great opportunity for a leisurely lunch @ The Church Brew Works on the east side of Pittsburgh. They have an unique atmosphere and wonderful food. Mango Cheesecake, homemade cinnamon ice cream, buffalo wings... Union Project is located on the east side of Pittsburgh and that was were Ian Mobsby was speaking on Art in Worship. Ian is from the Moot Community in London England and is touring the States to raise funds for the ministry there. This is a photo of one window at The Open Door's meeting room/sanctuary within the Union Project. We also stopped to visit In the Blood Tattoo and Piercing in the South Hills area called Carson Flats. The studio is partnered with Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community and reaches...

Tattoo School

I found a very talented artist on the web that trains people legitimately in the trade of tattooing. Although this permanent living art is not for everyone, I think that there is something to be said for the detail and beauty in some of the work. Check out the photos and look around at the other pictures posted on Lisa's website. It's impressive stuff, I think! http://www.tattoosbylisa.net/ Tara

SWB: Favorties and not so Favorite things

Favorite things: Music as prayer. Getting Relevant or Real Simple Magazine in the mail and reading it cover to cover in one sitting after skimming it first back to front. Breaking the plastic of a new Cd. Listening to the birds sing at sun rise. The smell of wood dust and just washed sheets. Big sunglasses. Hearing my kids say "Mom..." River rocks. Beauty Salons. Going for walks. Snail mail from friends. Writing Songs. Being Me. Loving You. Not so favorite: Never catching up with housework, homework and home repairs. Putting laundry away. Not having laundry away. Filing papers. Not having papers put away. Scales...mmm I know there are more, but this is not easy! It's funny to me that I am more than comfortable listing my favorite things about life but the things I dislike are challenging to even think about. It is common for me to have an emotional reaction to whatever I'm pondering upon. The things I love cause me to feel loved, understood, expressive and etc..., whi...

Moving too fast

Moving too fast T. L. Eastman 5/12/07 Racing, running no time in coming. Can't slow down to see what's Underneath the surface, the unseen, the wild. Moving faster to avoid disaster. Moving quicker to avoid the deeper Moving to move and avoid the master of me. Can't see it, Won't be it, What is ugly, what is obscene. Who will look and see what is me? Catching myself on prompts and promises. Gravity pulls me into everyday passion plays. Masks unfurled and mascara free. Moving faster to avoid disaster. Moving quicker to avoid the deeper Moving to move and avoid the master of me. Can't see it, Don't want to be it, Oh so ugly, Oh so obscene. Can You look and see what is really me? Coming so close to being untouchable. Won't stop to see what's in front of you. Under the obvious, underneath the fright. Moving faster to avoid disaster. Moving quicker to avoid the deeper Moving to move and avoid the master of me. I can see it, But I don't want to be it, No ma...

SWB - A long time coming

I've been thinking of what I'm thankful for over the past few days and much of it is connected to or in relation to the debut of my new band Tree House Tea Party. It really took a great deal of time and commitment to get ready for this day. Lots of rehearsal in Rhonda's music room, lots of phone conversations, lots of listening to each other and a great deal of understanding and grace from our families and friends. For Saturday's event we were able to have a full band for the evening - thanks Steve for being so willing to help us - hope you continue to play with us. Rhonda was so creative in the early outline and restructuring of some of my old songs - thanks for helping me to hear them a different way! The music that evening was yet another example of the freedom I've been living in and loving over the past few months. Its as if a door that was blocked for a very long time has been dug out and opened. The fresh air and sunshine has done wonders for my creative abili...
